完全な文と文の断片

Complete sentences and fragments

ルール

A sentence needs a subject and a main (finite) verb and must express a complete idea. A group of words without these is a fragment.

文には主語と述語動詞(時制のある動詞)が必要で、完結した考えを表さなければならない。それがない語句は断片(fragment)である。

✔ 正しい文: The museum, which opened in 1990, attracts many visitors.

✘ 誤った文: The museum, which opened in 1990 and attracts many visitors.

→ 直し方: Remove "and" so that "attracts" becomes the main verb.

コツ: Cover the extra information between commas. If what remains has no main verb, it is a fragment.
