定形動詞と非定形動詞

Finite and non-finite verbs

ルール

A clause needs a finite verb (a verb with tense). "-ing" forms and "to + verb" cannot be the main verb on their own.

節には時制のある定形動詞が必要。-ing形や「to+動詞」だけでは述語動詞にならない。

✔ 正しい文: The new law requires all buildings to have solar panels.

✘ 誤った文: The new law requiring all buildings to have solar panels.

→ 直し方: Change "requiring" to "requires" so the sentence has a main verb.
