Comma splices and run-on sentences

Правило

Two complete sentences cannot be joined with only a comma (comma splice) or with nothing (run-on). Use a period, a semicolon, or a comma plus a conjunction.

The data were incomplete; the team repeated the survey.

The data were incomplete, the team repeated the survey.

Replace the comma with a semicolon or a period.

Check both sides of a comma: if each side could stand alone as a sentence, a comma alone is wrong.
