Descriptive titles and names

Правило

Do not use a comma between a short descriptive title and a name when the title comes directly before it ("the biologist Jane Goodall"). Use commas only when the name is extra information.

Не ставьте запятую между коротким описанием и именем, если оно стоит прямо перед ним («the biologist Jane Goodall»). Запятые нужны, только если имя — дополнительная информация.

✔ Верно: The novelist Toni Morrison won the Nobel Prize in 1993.

✘ Неверно: The novelist, Toni Morrison, won the Nobel Prize in 1993.

→ Исправление: Remove the commas: "novelist" and the name work together.

Совет: "Title + name" with no "the … , …" pause takes no commas; "Morrison, a novelist, …" does.
