About AUSLEX

What AUSLEX is

AUSLEX is an independent English learning dictionary run by MELBSKY. It focuses on Australian English — everyday words, slang and the vocabulary of renting, work, tax, health care and government services — and explains each entry in plain English with an example sentence and translations into Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Russian and Hindi.

How entries are written

Definitions, examples and translations are original AUSLEX editorial drafts. They are checked for format, duplicates and consistency before publication, but they have not all been reviewed by native speakers of every language. Words that can offend are labelled. Usage varies by region, age and situation, so treat entries as a learning guide rather than an authority.

Pronunciation audio

The listen buttons use the text-to-speech voice built into your device or browser. They are not recordings of native speakers, and the accent you hear depends on the voices installed on your device.

Independence

AUSLEX is not affiliated with IELTS, Pearson PTE, the Australian Government or any agency named in the dictionary. Information about visas, tax, health care, tenancy or employment is general and may change; always check the official source before acting.
